Southern Memorial Funeral Home of Eufaula and Dothan, Alabama sadly announces the passing of Mr. Eddie Lowe, of Eufaula Alabama.
SFC Eddie Lowe affectionately called “Lowe” was born to the late Henry H. Lowe and Gertrude “Oliver” Lowe on Saturday, February 23, 1929 in Bakerhill Alabama. He was the last surviving sibling of twelve children. He felt the calling to accept Christ at an early age while attending the family church St Luke Missionary Baptist in Bakerhill Alabama.
Eddie was educated in the Bakerhill Public School System until his big sister “Mattie Lee” came for a visit. He was so excited and intrigued about life in Chi-Town that he asked his parents if he could go back with her and they said, “yes”. While there, he attended the Chicago Public School System until he was drafted in the army.
While in the army, he came home for a visit and met Dorothy Morris. He was smitten by her beauty and after a short courtship they married and to this union they had one child. Moving on he met and married Elizabeth Hoskey until her death.
Eddie served in two different wars: The Korean War and The Vietnam War. He was a valiant soldier and he received several awards such as National Defense Service, Bronze Star, United Service, Foreign Service, and the Oak Leaf Cluster just to name a few. He arose in rank and eventually retired as a Sergeant First Class.
Eddie exchanged time with eternity on Monday, March 28, 2016. He leaves to cherish his memories three children: Gwendolyn Thornton of San Francisco, CA, Herman Lowe of Clayton Alabama, and Edward (Tia) Grimes of Murfreesboro, Tennessee Stepchildren: Lena Mae Harris, Delois Harris, and Clifford James Harris and a special relationship with his nephew James Henry Lowe, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and host of nieces and nephews.
