Jackie's story began on the country roads of Troy, Alabama, where she was born in
1958. She was the cherished daughter of the late Maomi Rhodes and Lafayette
Davis.
She spent her formative years growing up on Needmore Road, where the deep roots
of family, faith, and community were first established. It was here, surrounded by
the loving support of her family, that she developed the joyful spirit, incredible
kindness, and unwavering work ethic that defined her life. She was preceded in
death by her dear brother, Charles, whom the family knew affectionately as
"Bubba" Sheffield. The lessons learned and the memories made during her
childhood in the Alabama countryside shaped the remarkable woman she became, a
woman who always knew the importance of home.
A Life Well Lived
Jackie was a woman of strong roots and vibrant spirit. A proud graduate and track
star of Pike County High School in Brundidge, Alabama, Class of 1976, she
carried that spark of youthful enthusiasm throughout her life.
More than her formal education, she was renowned for her lifelong passion: baking.
This skill didn't just earn her a wonderful reputation, it earned her the beloved
nickname, "The Cake Lady." Jackie treated her kitchen as her stage, generously
sharing her legendary pound cakes and cookies. Her entrepreneurial spirit drove her
all the way from Troy to Panama City, Florida, ensuring everyone received a taste
of her unique brand of sweetness.
To her family and friends, Jackie was truly a guiding light. She was famous for her
laughter, her selfless nature, and her knack for spinning a funny story that
brightened any room. She was also known as the best dancer they knew, a title
earned during countless joyous moments shared with her close family, creating
memories on the kitchen floor that will last a lifetime. Her wisdom wasn't just
common sense; she was known for giving great advice that was always delivered
with warmth and strengthened by her deep faith to uplift everyone around her.
The family she raised and loved was her greatest joy. Jackie maintained an
exceptionally close, joyous, and special relationship with all her family members.
She leaves behind a legacy defined by her warmth, her humor, and the
unconditional love that made her the unforgettable "Granny" and "Buckky" to her
beloved grandchildren and the guiding matriarch of her family.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still
waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his
name's sake.Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear
no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest
a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil;
my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my
life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. Amen
