Willie Edward McCrae was born to the late Cleveland McCrae and
Mamie King McCrae in Texasville, Alabama on February 22, 1943. He
was known by many nicknames but the one that stuck was “Poe”. God
blessed him to be with us for 80 years.
Willie departed his earthly life on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at home
surrounded by his loving family. Willie lived a fulfilling life as a son,
husband, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and
friend. He accepted Christ and joined St. Peter Baptist Church as an
early age and remained a faithful member until his death.
He is preceded in death by his father, Cleveland; mother Mamie;
daughter, Ruth McGilery Thornton; son, Darren McCrae; brothers,
Roger McCrae, Johnny McCrae, Walter McCrae, and Bobby James
McCrae and sisters, Robbie Sue Tucker and Bonnie McCrae.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories to Myrtle-Fryer McCrae, his
one and only son, Kim (Regina) McCrae Sr., grandkids, Amber McCrae
and Kem McCrae II (Kendall & Kemorah); honorary children, Paul
(Kimberly) Young, Shajuana (HaLeigh) McLendon, Roger (Tiffany)
McCrae, Jr, Alberta (Eric) Ward, Larry (Felicia) Glanton, Peggy,
Loretta, Angie Davis and Linda McCrae; grandchildren, Jennifer
McGilvery, Lavonda Jenkins, Laquita (Tyshawn) Esdaile, Keaundra
Stringer Errol and a host of great grandchildren; sisters, Marsha
McCrae, Texasville, AL; Annie McCrae, Lula Burks and Ruby Shelly,
all of Dothan, AL, and Dorthy Reynolds, Orlando, FL; brothers, Fred
(Chris) McCrae, Louis (Mary Dean) McCrae of Texasville, AL; a very
dear friend he loved like a brother, Robert Anglin and the Anglin
Family; a special friend, Debbie Smith, son Corderro Smith,
granddaughter, Nautica Smith; in-laws, Ada McCrae, Texasville, AL;
Patricia Fryer, Tuscaloosa, AL, Maggie (Monroe) McCall, Clayton, AL,
Wileen (William) Harrison, Tennessee, Denise (Terry) Brown,
